(RIVER GLADE, NB - May 18th, 2022) – Racing returns to Petty International Raceway this Saturday afternoon, May 21st, for the first time since last September. The 2022 Season Opener will feature a full card of racing, including several features with increased laps and/or increased winner payouts. In all, seven different divisions, including the Season Opener for the Atlantic Modified Tour, will hit the track for a total of nine feature races to kick off the year. Racing begins at 4pm on the River Glade, New Brunswick oval.
With all house divisions fighting for championships at Petty International Raceway for the first time since 2019, the intensity will ramp up quick beginning with this Saturday’s race. The A.E McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman and the Stuff Your Stuff Commercial Storage Street Stock divisions will compete in 75-lap features on Saturday afternoon. The Mister Transmission Mini Stocks and Legends will each compete in Twin 40-lap features with the winners of each receiving $500. The Kings County Performance Women on Wheels, the Leisure Days RV Centre Bandoleros and the Atlantic Modified Tour will contest regular distance features to ease their way into the 2022 season.
With the Petty Raceway Season Opener also being the first paved oval stock car racing event of the season within the Province and one of the first for several classes in the Maritimes, the event is expected to attract drivers from across the region for their first shot at victory lane. Combine that with the fact that several drivers, teams and fans will have their first chance to see race cars live at the track since September’s Mike Stevens Memorial and the anticipation for Saturday’s event is high.
Grandstand admission prices for Saturday’s event are $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged eight to 18 with children aged seven and under admitted for free. Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. New in 2022, all those entering the pit gates must complete their insurance waiver online prior to heading to the track. This waiver can be completed by going to PIRL.speedwaiver.com. Pit gates open at 10am, grandstand gates open for spectators at 2pm with qualifying getting underway at 4pm. Camping is available on a first come, first serve basis.
