(RIVER GLADE, NB - September 28th, 2023) - After an extended break due to weather, Petty International Raceway is set to fire up with two big weekends of racing action. First up on Saturday, September 30th, it is the Old Fashion Meat Market 150 that will crown a champion in the Super Late Model Series. Four support classes will join the Super Late Model Series superstars, all battling for track championships at the River Glade, New Brunswick oval. Racing begins at 2pm on Saturday afternoon.
Drew Greenlaw (Eastport, ME) enters as the championship point leader in the Sportsman battle between the competitors at Petty International Raceway and Speedway 660. Greenlaw has one feature win on the season in the AJW Mechanical Sportsman at Petty Raceway, while Koven Lewis (Salisbury, NB) and Courtney O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) have laid claim to the other two features. Lewis is the most recent winner, scoring a very popular victory with the hometown fans during the Jones Auto Body River Glade International.
The Street Stock division has been owned by Michael Cormier this season. Cormier and his Famous Blue Dodge have won heats and features in all three events so far in 2023. His perfect 180 points lead Logan Power (Riverview, NB) by seven at the halfway point on the season for the division. The division will compete for 50-laps with $1000-to-win presented by Stuff Your Stuff Commercial Storage and Arsenault Racing Engines.
After three races in the Mister Transmission Mini Stock division, a four way battle for the championship has emerged! Donnie Pratt (Riverview, NB) won the first two races but it was defending track champion Ryan McKnight (Sussex, NB) capturing the most recent round on July 23rd. There is five points between them after a trio of races with Rob Poirier (Irishtown, NB) stuck in the middle of them. Poirier, a former track champion himself, is the only driver to finish on the podium in the three feature contests so far this year. Two points off McKnight in fourth is Patricia Weagle (Steeves Mountain, NB), who has turned consistency of her own into a quiet championship bid. Weagle was the runner-up in the feature on July 23rd. Twenty teams have tried their Mini Stock skills at Petty Raceway so far this Summer.
The Legend division will return to action this weekend ahead of a busy Mike Stevens Memorial card next weekend. Owen Mahar (Hubley, NS), the 2022 Cross Roads Maritime League of Legends Tour Champion, leads the Petty International Raceway house points after two races in their championship chase in July. The Legend will compete in a pair of $1,000 to win events next weekend, meaning there could be some drivers in town a week early to tune up for the big money showdowns on October 6th and 7th.
Please note, the previously scheduled Leisure Days RV Bandolero races for this weekend have been canceled. For a full preview of the Old Fashion Meat Market 150 Super Late Model Series race, please visit SLMS.ca.
